About Workshop

The Committee on Earth Observation Satellites (CEOS) Working Group on Calibration and Validation (WGCV) supports six subgroups for various application domains and sensors to focus on specific technical areas related to calibration and validation. One of these subgroups is that of Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR). The mission of the SAR subgroup is to foster high-quality synthetic aperture radar data from airborne and spaceborne systems through precision calibration in radiometry, phase and geometry, and validation of higher level products. The subgroup meets annually to discuss the results and new developments. The SAR Subgroup of the CEOS working group on calibration and validation has been organizing workshops with the objective of providing an open forum for the presentation and discussion of current and future issues related to the calibration and validation of space borne SAR sensors and data products.

Venue Details

The venue for this workshop will be Space Applications Centre [ISRO], Ahmedabad located at Satellite Road, Jodhpur Tekra.

Space Applications Centre (SAC) is one of the major centres of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) located in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. SAC focuses on the design of space-borne instruments for ISRO missions and development and operationalization of applications of space technology for national development. The applications cover communication, broadcasting, navigation, disaster monitoring, meteorology, oceanography, environment monitoring and natural resources survey. SAC is responsible for the development of NISAR S-band SAR hardware, L&S band ASAR hardware and leading the NISAR science activities in India. (website: sac.gov.in) SAC is also a host institution for the training programmes related to Satellite Communication and Meteorology activities of the Centre for Space Science & Technology Education in Asia and the Pacific (CSSTEAP) affiliated to the United Nations (UN).

About Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad is a world heritage city and the largest city of Gujarat State. It is located on the banks of the River Sabarmati, 30km from the state capital Gandhinagar. The city is well connected with major Indian cities by air, rail and road. Space Applications Centre(ISRO) is situated at the western part of Ahmedabad city and can be reached by road from Ahmedabad airport (20km), railway station (12km) an Interstate bus terminus (10km).The weather in Ahmedabad remains dry and warm during the month of November with temperature ranging from 20°C to maximum 32°C approximately.
